Moosical Questions?????

What is the first song you can remember or what is the first song hook you can remember?

Embarassed to say that my first memory of a song I sang over and over again was none other than Glen Cambell's "Rhinestone Cowboy." "Like a rhinestone cowboy..." I think I was about 2 or 3 years old.

Wikipedia info:

In general, a rhinestone cowboy is any man who wears the elaborate, stylized western wear made by rodeo tailors, especially as contrasted to a working cowboy or ranch hand.

Released in May 1975, "Rhinestone Cowboy" immediately caught on with both country and pop audiences. The song spent that summer climbing both the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles and Billboard Hot 100 charts before peaking at No. 1 by season's end - three non-consecutive weeks on the country chart, two weeks on the Hot 100.
During the week of September 13 — that was the week the song returned to No. 1 on the Billboard country chart, after having been nudged out for a week by "Feelins'" by Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn — "Rhinestone Cowboy" topped both the country and Hot 100 charts simultaneously. This was the first time a song had accomplished the feat since November 1961, when "
Big Bad John" by Jimmy Dean turned the trick.
"Rhinestone Cowboy" was one of six songs released in 1975 that topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard Hot Country Singles charts. The other songs were "
Before the Next Teardrop Falls" by Freddy Fender; "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" by B.J. Thomas, "Thank God I'm a Country Boy" and "I'm Sorry"/"Calypso," both by John Denver; and "Convoy" by C.W. McCall.

Where Have I Been???

Where have I been? I am ready to mail out August 07 MIXMOO and I thought I would look around the Internet for MIXMOO stuff.... I found this blog with all this conversation that I am just now reading..... I'm sorry for my technological ignorance. You should get the August 07 edition of MIXMOO by the end of the first week of Sept.

A couple of things about the August MIXMOO.
Cover photo is outside of the Orrville Public Library (Orrville, Ohio) The towers are milk vats for a local dairy company (Smith Dairy). The cd photo was taken in August 06 near Times Square NYC. I loved the art because it is album covers that went on for about 2 blocks. The double decker bus we were on was flying by so it does not represent the entire work of art. Back of cd is a clip art photo. Inside the envelop is an area tourism guide available throught the region I live in. I just thought I'd share a little piece of my world with you all.

My wife and I will be in So Cal in mid Sept. visiting her relative in Pasadena. Can anyone recommend good places to see live music or California must sees??? We will be at the Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 15....Pink Martini. I have never been "out west," Hell, I've never been more west than Indianapolis.

I hope you enjoy the August Mixmoo.

February! a little love, a little rain, a little music!

I would generally call myself a lyrics person when it comes to music. Poetry set to music, words that I relate to, or a story that seems meaningful to the artist singing it tend to be what I gravitate towards most often. I don't listen to a lot of mainstream music as I find it lacking more often than not in that department though I know I've missed out on some great rhythms and sounds because of it. For my February mix I wanted to break out of my normal box a bit and get back to a basic appreciation of music - sound without as much focus on the words (or just their meaning). I listened to a large variety of music from around the world while working on putting together this mix- some great, some weird, some a bit too traditional for me outside of their own settings (I've decided tribal chanting plays much better with a campfire and an actual tribe than on an mp3 player in an urban setting). The tracks chosen are sounds that I appreciated and that stayed with me after hearing them. Hopefully everyone will find a few sounds in this mix that they enjoy as well.

It's late and I'm punchy...

Hey everyone! Happy New Year! Hope you all had somewhat relaxing and rewarding holidays. I've been catching up on my mix listening lately. I was so behind- what with the whirlwind of Kindergarten and my newish baby. Baby's now 9 months has 5 teeth and is crawling, Kindergartner was off for a very relaxing few weeks. Grind about to start again, but hope to have more time to do things I like to do, like visit this blog.

I am working on my mix for January. Trying not to repeat myself! I have some in the works, just need some fine tuning. I hope to have it in the mail in the next week or so or so. I'll get it to you by the end of the month at least! I have had such a good time listening to the latest mixes. Well-done everyone! I can't tell you how it brightens my day and keeps me connected with the world to get those CD's in the mail each month. So glad to be a part of this fun experiment.

August 06 (Dave's) Mix Discussion

WOW!! There's double the fun!
Dave, nice work. Was it that you couldn't fit it all in? Because you REALLY covered a ton of stuff. You might have the most varied songs of any of our mixes. What does everyone else think?

Where do you get your music inspiration?

I have to say, my favorite is the Sesame's Treet. There was a time when I was a rave-fanatic, that was the sh**! Thanks for putting that in there!!! I actually called up an old friend and just played that into the phone. Hee hee.

Looking forward to chatting with everyone!!

Weekend America

Like a few others, I heard the weekend america segment that revisted these CD clubs that gideon setup and talked to a few members from the penguins. Pretty interesting, and I'm oh-so jealous that MixMoo was not selected...

Where is everyone?

Hello, just got another CD in the mail yesterday! So exciting. Just wondering where everyone is?

Tuesday, September 19, 2006

Hello again...hello

Never miss an opportunity to quote Neil Diamond. I finally got back on this boat! Thank you Dustin, I did go to my junk email, and there was the invitation. I LOVE this blog. Much easier for me to navigate and a lot prettier than the Yahoo group. Got the August CD's yesterday, thanks Dave. Haven't had a chance to digest the music yet, very exciting to get two! Sounds like some good stuff so far! Also wanted to thank all of the past months contributors, thoroughly enjoyed each one. I have been introduced to a lot of great stuff and many have become favorites.

I've been gone for a while due to new baby (6 months and healthy!) and the start of Kindergarten-- see my blog for more if you like. I probably missed a lot of discussions and such. We are going to keep doing this- right? I'm all ready to make another mix! I think it would be fun to do themes or something this time- like chose a word or idea or event and pick music to interpret it. Some might not like to do that, and of course any mix CD is always enjoyable. Just an idea! Also, do we have new members? That's cool if so. I really enjoy this, it's one of my few dwindling links to the adult world...music is so portable, it's just about the only thing that keeps me connected!

Cheers, everyone!

Ok Go

I got to admit, I've not heard of this band since this video... what a cool video. Since I don't listen to mainstream media, are these guys well known?

Getting my blog feet wet...

Awesome work Dustin!

I love all the different crazy tastes everyone has... every month thus far has definitely been unique. The mix playlist posting was time consuming I'm sure but well worth it.

Hope this format works out better for us as a group and keeps the conversation flowing.
